Boxing: Harrison low key ahead of comeback
FORMER WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison intends to become king of the world again, but he stopped short of promising fans the earth ahead of his long-awaited comeback against Hungarian Gyorgy Mizsei Jr at the Kelvin Hall tonight.
At 34, Harrison is 16 years older than his opponent for the International Masters lightweight title and, while Mizsei has concentrated his professional career into the last three months (seven wins, three inside the distance), the Scot has been inactive for six years, seven months and 24 days.
Consequently, he warned his fans not to expect too much from this unlikeliest of comebacks.
“I won’t be putting myself under pressure by saying I’ll knock him out in a certain round,” he said. “I’m going out to do a job and I’m not promising to put on a spectacular show.
“Winning is the most important thing and I intend to enjoy it. It’s a privilege to be boxing again.
“My kids are getting older and this is my chance to secure their future. There were times when I thought this day would never come but we’re here now and I can’t wait to get back in there.”
Having moved up two weight divisions, Harrison comfortably made the 9st 9lb limit at yesterday’s weigh-in.
