Westwood aims for a repeat

LEE WESTWOOD begins his defence of the million-dollar Thailand Golf Championship today, aiming to repeat the record-breaking form which landed him the title a year ago.

It would make for a perfect end to 2012 for the world
No 6, who set up his seven-stroke victory at the Amata Spring Country Club last year with a 12-under par 60 to set a new course record.

Recalling that triumph, the Englishman said: “Yeah, lots of great memories. I suppose shooting 60 in the first round was fairly memorable and then following up with a 64 to lead by 11 after two rounds – I can’t think when that has ever happened.”

Bidding for his third victory of the season, Westwood joins a field which includes reigning Masters Tournament champion Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel, Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa, Ryder Cup stars Nicolas Colsaerts and Sergio Garcia and 2011 Open champion Darren Clarke.
