Webster and Kenny best of the Scots

LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR: Scottish duo Gemma Webster and Lynn Kenny both opened with one-over-par 72s to sit five shots behind the leaders, French duo Julie Maisongrosse and Jade Schaeffer, after the opening round of the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.

Webster signed for four birdies on a card that was tarnished by a triple-bogey 6 at the 16th, while Kenny had three birdies in her round. Carly Booth, Vikki Laing and Kylie Walker all opened with 74s, while Clare Queen, the other Scot in the field, had a 75.

Schaeffer and Maisongrosse fired matching rounds of four-under 67 to hold a one-stroke lead over England’s Sophie Walker, Swede Linda Wessberg and Rebecca Codd of Ireland.

French trio Caroline Afonso, Virginie Lagoutte-Clement and Sophie Giquel-Bettan are all a stroke further back.
