University golf: Stirling to the fore at Dundonald

Stirling students dominated BUCS Student Tour event at Dundonald Links, where the more experienced Patrick Spraggs held off rising star Cormac Sharvin to claim top spot in the men’s competition.

Spraggs shot rounds off 75, 69 and 76 for a total of 220, winning by a shot from Sharvin, who has quickly impressed head of performance Dean Robertson since joining the Stirling set-up. Former Battle Trophy winner Zander Culverwell was third on 226, a shot ahead of another Stirling player, reigning Scottish Boys champion Craig Howie. St Andrews claimed the top two spots in the women’s event, Miranda Brain posting a 54-hole total of 248 to finish two shots ahead of team-mate Gabrielle MacDonald.
