Tidy blasts ‘disgusting’ behaviour
PERRINE DELACOUR was at the centre of a storm over allegations of bad etiquette and poor sportsmanship at the British Ladies Amateur Championship at Carnoustie yesterday.
They were levelled at the 18-year-old from Paris by former winner Kelly Tidy following their last-16 clash. In a rant on Twitter, Tidy accused Delacour of “the worst sportsmanship I have seen in 15 years of competition” and described her behaviour as “disgusting”.
After losing 4 and 2, Tidy said her opponent had been “slamming her club on my down swing” and “cheering and fist-pumping when I go in a bunker”.
She also claimed that Delacour made a rude gesture to her grandmother after she had asked the French player to stand still when Tidy was playing.
Delacour, who has a semi-final this morning with Rocio Sanchez Lobato of Spain, declined to comment. But Susan Simpson, the LGU’s head of golf operations, said they would continue to keep an eye on Delacour.
The other semi-final is between English 16-year-old Georgina Hall and Ireland’s Stephanie Meadow.
