South African Open Golf: Boost for Llloyd Saltman in Tour card fight

LLOYD Saltman boosted his hopes of earning a European Tour card next season as he moved into fourth place after two days of the South African Open at Serengeti.

The Scot is on eight under par, five shots adrift of leader Henrik Stenson, and has to win to earn a place on the main tour after failing to make it through the second stage of the qualifying school in Spain last week. But a 66 containing seven birdies showed what he is capable of. “It’s a sort of last-chance saloon for me,” said the 27-year-old.

Stenson (65) holds a four-stroke lead over fellow Swede Magnus Carlsson (67) and Merrick Bremner, who still had four holes to go after play was suspended because of lightning.
