Scottish trio start well in Morocco test

LET QUALIFYING SCHOOL: Three Scots – Heather MacRae, Vikki Laing and Kelsey MacDonald – produced sub-par efforts in the first round of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School in Morocco.

MacRae’s four-under-par 68 at Amelkis in Marrakech earned the Gleneagles Hotel player a share of fourth spot after the opening day, while Musselburgh’s Laing is tied for 38th after she signed for a 69 at the same venue.

Launching her bid at Al Maaden, the other venue being used for the five-round event, Nairn Dunbar amateur MacDonald opened with a 71 to also sit inside the top 50.

Ayrshirewoman Pamela Feggans is just behind her after a 72 but Katy McNicoll, the other Scot among the hopefuls, is down the field after a 75.
