Scots trio set for first stage of Alps qualifying

THE climb to get on the Alps Tour, one of Europe’s third-tier circuits, next season starts today in the foothills of the Costa
del Sol.

The first stage of its Qualifying School gets underway at La Cala, where the hopefuls include John Henry, Malcolm Isaacs and Ross Cameron.

Henry is the younger brother of two-times Scottish Boys’
champion Scott, who is now on the European Tour having
graduated from the Challenge Tour this year.

He’s still in the early stages of his professional career, as are Isaacs and Cameron, both of whom have received support from Paul Lawrie in their bids to become Tour players.

Among those spared the
pre-qualifying test are former Walker Cup player Michael Stewart, as well as Philip McLean, Neil Fenwick and Paul Shields, the latter having entered as
an amateur as he weighs up his options.

They are all hoping to follow in the spikemarks of Ross
Kellett after the Motherwell man passed the same test a year ago then went on to finish fifth on the money list to earn his
Challenge Tour card next season.
