Scots pay dearly for scorecard error

YOUTH GOLF: Greig Marchbank (Dumfries & Co), joint best of the Scots in the first round of the stroke-play qualifying, was disqualified for a “scorecard inaccuracy” in the second round yesterday and Scotland failed by one shot to be one of the top eight teams in the championship match-play in the European boys team golf championship at Lidingo Golf Club, Sweden.

Following Marchbank’s disqualification, Scotland had to count all their remaining five second-round scores – instead of being able to discard the worst – and this meant that a 77 by Scottish boys match-play champion Craig Howie (Peebles) had to be included.

Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie) had scored a one-under-par 69, Ewan Scott (St Andrews) a 71, Jamie Savage (Cawder) a 73, and Lawrence Allan (Alva) a 75.
