Scots pair face off in Joburg last eight

sOUTH AFRICAN AMATEUR: Scotland is guaranteed a presence in the semi-finals at Johannesburg Country Club after Ewan Scott (St Andrews) and Fraser McKenna (Balmore) set up a last-eight head-to-head today.

Bidding to claim a third successive Scottish success in the event, Scott dug deep to win his two matches yesterday against home hopes, beating Hennie Du Plessis on the last green in the morning before squeezing past Teagan Moore at the third extra hole. In contrast, McKenna made comfortable progress, sweeping aside Jake Buitendag 5 and 4 in the second round then winning 6 and 5 against another South African, Jason Viljoen.

Glenbervie’s Graeme Robertson lost at the eighth extra hole in the second round, where Jamie Savage (Cawder) also bowed out.
