Scots miss out in Junior Ryder Cup

FORFAR’S Stuart Wilson will captain a team without any Scots in it when he leads Europe into battle in the Junior Ryder Cup at Olympia Fields in Illinois next month.

Austrian Matthias Schwab, runner-up to Alan Dunbar in this year’s Amateur Championship at Royal Troon, spearheads the 12-strong side selected by Wilson, assistant captain Kristin Gunhildrud and representatives from the European Golf Association and the European Tour.

Spaniard Covadonga Sanjuan earned automatic selection after her victory in the European Young Masters in Hungary last month, as did Italy’s Renato Paratore, who won the boys’ competition. Schwab was among those handed wild card picks. He is joined in the boys’ under-18 category by England’s Toby Tree, Gavin Moynihan, of Ireland, and Swede Victor Tarnstrom. England’s Bronte Law is also in a side that comprises two under-16 boys, two under-16 girls, four under-18 boys and four under-18 girls. The match takes place on 25-25 September.
