Rose up to career-high fourth spot

Justin Rose’s closing 62 for second place behind Rory McIlroy in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on Sunday has taken him to fourth in the world – his highest placing.

But, by finishing only joint- 48th in the 56-strong field, Lee Westwood has dropped to sixth – his lowest position for over three years.

The European Tour season has finished with four Scots in the top 100, with Paul Lawrie leading the way in 27th.

Richie Ramsay, up one to 55th, is now above Martin Laird, who has dropped five spots to 60th, while Stephen Gallacher has re-joined his comptriots in the top 100 after climbing eight spots to 95th.

Meanwhile, world No 2 Luke Donald is planning to have an operation in the off-season in an attempt to cure a lingering problem with his sinuses.

“My sinuses are all completely clogged up and every time I
get a little bit run down they turn into infections,” he said. “Hopefully the surgery will fix it. It’s a pretty quick and easy
operation.”

Donald said he was affected by the problem over the last two rounds in Dubai at the weekend.
