Pugh wins European stroke-play title

AMATEUR: Welsh Walker Cup hero Rhys Pugh, 18, won the European individual amateur golf stroke-play title with a brilliant final round of six-under 66 for a final total of 11-under 277 – and a one-shot win over his compatriot James Frazer at Carton House Golf Club, Maynooth in Ireland.

Pugh’s victory at the Colin Montgomerie-designed course will gain him an invitation to next year’s Open at Muirfield.
