Lawrie cards 64 for Skibo Castle victory

TARTAN TOUR: Paul Lawrie picked up the £5,000 top prize in the Carnegie Invitational Pro-Am after producing a stunning second-round performance at Skibo Castle.

The Aberdonian, who is attached to the Highlands venue, carded a seven-under-par 64 for a total of 139, winning the £46,850 elite-field event by seven shots.

Lawrie, who described the tournament on his blog as “the best pro-am ever”, stormed home in 32, picking up five birdies in his last seven holes.

Hayston’s Stephen Gray, last year’s Tartan Tour No 1, finished second on 146, one ahead of overnight leader Gordon Law (Uphall).

Buchanan Castle’s Jason McCreadie, who shot 102 in a wind-ravaged opening round, bounced back with a 74 but still finished second last in the 18-strong field.
