SCOTT Henry made his first cut on the European Tour on the same day he received a sponsorship boost from the company that already backs fellow Scot Richie Ramsay.

The Craig Group, which is based in Aberdeen, is supporting Henry in his rookie season, having been impressed by the 25-year-old Clydebank man’s attitude as he worked his way up the professional ladder.

“Through our corporate social responsibility, we have worked with a number of up-and-coming golfers from around Scotland, for whom a little support can go a long way,” said chairman Douglas Craig.

“It means a lot for the company to help promote sport in Scotland and we are proud to be part of Scott’s achievements through our sponsorship programme.

“Scott is extremely enthusiastic and ambitious. This, combined with his dedication to the sport and his sportsmanship, will not only stand him in good stead, but makes him an ideal ambassador for us as a company and golf in Scotland.”

The announcement proved timely as Henry, who’d missed the cut in his first three starts, guaranteed himself a first European Tour cheque by making it into the final two rounds of the Qatar Masters in Doha.

“This is an exciting new relationship and I am extremely proud to be part of the Craig Group programme,” said the former Scottish Boys’ champion and winner of last season’s Kazakhstan Open on the Challenge Tour.

“I’m determined to secure the best placing possible on the European Tour to show what Scotland has to offer the international sporting community.”
