Golf: Shin shines in Virginia

SOUTH Korea’s Jiyai Shin finally emerged as the winner of the LPGA Tour Kingsmill Championship as her epic play-off against American Paula Creamer was brought to a swift conclusion at the River Course in Williamsburg, Virginia yesterday.

The pair could not be separated after eight extra holes on Sunday and had to return yesterday morning to complete proceedings, but a new day and a different hole brought a change in fortunes as Shin, 24, quickly claimed her ninth LPGA crown. After both players parred the par-four 18th eight times before darkness forced them off, they played the 16th hole and another par 4 for Shin was this time enough for her as Creamer carded a bogey 5.
