Golf: Scott Piercy and William McGirt on top in Canada
American Scott Piercy followed up his opening-day 62 with a 67 yesterday to hold a share of the clubhouse lead in the RBC Canadian Open, but England’s Greg Owen slipped back down the leaderboard following a disappointing second round.
Piercy, who held a one-shot lead over Owen following an opening day of record scoring, picked up four birdies and just one bogey to sign for a three-under-par second round to leave him on 11 under for the tournament.
Alongside him was compatriot William McGirt, who reached the turn in four under but could not improve on that on the back nine as he finished with a 66 at the Hamilton G&CC in Ontario.
Another American, Robert Garrigus, also signed for a 66 to lie one shot behind the leading pair on ten under, while Vijay Singh of Fiji was fourth on eight under after a 67.
Owen was down in joint 14th, though, after he could only card a two-over-par 72.
