Golf: Laura Murray’s pro move spikes title bid

Laura Murray, the reigning Scottish Women’s Amateur champion, will not be defending her title at Longniddry later this year after turning professional.

The 24-year-old Alford player has made the switch with immediate effect on the advice of her mentor, Paul Lawrie, and will be trying to emulate compatriot Pamela Pretswell by earning a step up to the Ladies European Tour (LET) from its development circuit.

“I believe this optimises my chances of gaining a LET players’ card at the next Q School in Morocco at the end of the year,” said Murray, a two-times St Rule Trophy winner. “I can’t wait to get started with my season. I have a great support group behind me.”
