Golf: James is head of the Senior school

Scotland’s David James shot a superb round of 66 to join the English duo of Simon Brown and Wraith Grant at the top of the leaderboard on the third day of the European Senior Tour Qualifying School Final.

A commanding performance on the greens moved James to the head of affairs on seven- under-par alongside Brown and Grant, who both made four birdies in their respective rounds of 68.

James bounced back from an opening bogey at Pestana Golf Resort’s Vale da Pinta course to notch seven birdies, which have put him in pole position to claim one of the six full cards available for the 2013 Senior Tour season.

“I putted very well today,” said James. “But I also made a few mental errors, so I need to stay focused on the last day.”
