Golf: Carly Booth makes the cut despite poor round

Scotland’s Booth joined in the annual charity football match with French legends Zinedine Zidane and Laurent Blanc at the Evian Masters on Thursday evening – but she was rather regretting the decision after hobbling to a second-round 73 yesterday.

A one-over-par 145 was good enough to make the cut, but the 20-year-old was 13 shots behind the leader, Stacy Lewis. Booth played the second round with her left knee heavily strapped.

“I woke up this morning and I couldn’t put any weight on my left leg,” she explained. “I don’t really know if it was the football because I kick everything with my right and it’s my left knee. Everything considered, it was good to make the cut. Now I’m going to put my knee in lots of ice.”

North Berwick’s Catriona Matthew, the only other Scot in the field, had a 72 and made the cut on the final mark of two over par.
