Golf: Alastair Forsyth gets Scottish spot

THE pain felt by Alastair Forsyth at losing out on an Open Championship spot in a play-off at Sunningdale on Monday has been eased slightly after he was handed an invitation to the Aberdeen Asset Managament Scottish Open in a fortnight’s time.

Stirling’s Craig Lee, who had been first reserve when the entries closed last week, is also now in the field at Castle Stuart, increasing the Scottish contingent to 14 players at the moment. First reserve now is Helensburgh’s Gary Orr, who also has a good chance of getting in through his ranking, although it’s likely the European Tour stalwart would receive one of the remaining invitations if he needed one.

Paul Lawrie and Martin Laird, the two Scots currently in the world’s top 50, will head the home challenge, with Colin Montgomerie, the winner at Loch Lomond in 1999, and two-time major winner Sandy Lyle also in the field.
