First ace for Booth in professional ranks

LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR: Carly Booth had her first hole-in-one in a tournament during the first round of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open.

The recent Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open champion aced the par-3 11th at Golf Gerre Losone in Ticino using a 9-iron. The ball pitched a metre behind the flag, spinning back into the hole.

“It’s my first in a tournament but I think I had one when I was a lot younger,” said 19-year-old Booth, who opened with a round of two-under-par 70 to lie six shots off the pace, set by Australian Rebecca Artis, who shot a career-low 64.

Booth, who tied for seventh place last week in Slovakia, has her boyfriend, European Tour professional Tano Goya, caddying for her at the tournament. The 24-year-old Argentine won the Madeira Islands Open in 2009.
