Byrne shares third spot in Malaysia
Banchory’s James Byrne has strung together his best two finishes since he won the Northern Open in August.
At the weekend, he finished joint third in the PGM Masters at Kuala Lumpur, after a top-10 spot the previous week on the Asian Developmental Tour.
Byrne had rounds of 71, 69 and 65 for a five-under-par total of 208 – seven more than the Kuala Lumpur winner by six, American Brian Locke (67, 68, 66 for 201). His latest performance earned him $3,780, raising his income from consecutive events to $5,620.
“I’m happy with a third place finish as I was well off the pace going into the last six holes but managed to play them in four under par to move up about ten spots,” said Byrne later.
“I’ve really enjoyed the two ADT events I’ve played. They are very competitive, but the standard obviously isn’t quite as high as on the main Asian Tour.
“One more to go in Taiwan before getting back on the main circuit. There’s a chance I can secure a full card with a win.”
