Byrne has a buzz in Myanmar

JAMES Byrne reckons he is “better equipped” for this season’s Asian Tour, which tees off its tenth anniversary in tomorrow’s opening round of the Zaykabar
Myanmar Open.

The 24-year-old Banchory player finished 122nd on the money list in his rookie season last year but is brimming with confidence heading into the new campaign.

He won on the Asian
Development Tour in Malaysia last month and is now aiming to make his presence felt on leaderboards on the main circuit.

“I’m always playing to win but this year I believe I’m better equipped to do so having played a full year on tour last year,” said the 2011 Walker Cup player.

“I’m familiar with the golf courses now and know the ins and outs of tour life a bit better, so that can only help. The win in Kuala Lumpur was a great way to start the year and I hope to maintain the standard I’ve set as the year progresses.

“Last year I was a bit slow out the gates, and that made it difficult for me towards the end of the year, so I hope to get off to a much quicker start this time.”

The event at Yangon carries a $300,000 prize fund and reigning Asian Tour No 1 Thaworn Wiratchant will hit the first tee-shot on the tenth tee in the opening round to commemorate the circuit’s celebration.
