Stewart Regan quits Twitter after abuse

SCOTTISH Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan has quit Twitter after being bombarded with abuse from disgruntled football supporters.

Regan deleted his private account yesterday afternoon after coming under increasing pressure from fans of all clubs over his role in Rangers newco’s entry into the Third Division of the Scottish Football League.

The former head of Yorkshire Cricket Club was a prolific tweeter up until recently when he began to receive unsavoury messages. Regan had warned that if Rangers were not parachuted into the First Division, Scottish football would face a “slow, lingering death”.

Regan blocked a number of the perpetrators, but yesterday decided enough was enough and deleted his account. Last night an SFA spokesman confirmed that Regan had left the social networking site. He said: “Stewart hadn’t used his Twitter page since 16 June. He has now deleted it as using the account became counter-productive.”
