Second and Third Division: League leaders Cowdenbeath hit Albion hard and fast

SECOND Division leaders Cowdenbeath met Albion Rovers at Central Park and it was game over by half time in their 3-0 success over the Coatbridge men. Lewis Coult hit the opener on ten minutes with a low drive and Marc McKenzie added the second on 21 minutes.

Coult made it three five minutes later when he converted a McKenzie cross with neither side really threatening in the second half.

Second-placed Arbroath were held to a 1-1 draw by neighbours Brechin City and now head into the meeting between the leading duo at Gayfield this weekend four points behind.

The Red Lichties struck the post through Josh Falkingham before Steven Doris gave them the lead with 20 minutes to go with Paul McLean levelling nine minutes from time.

Forfar Athletic entertained Dumbarton and the Sons moved up to fourth place after their 1-1 draw. Visiting shot-stopper Stephen Grindlay kept Joe Shaughnessy and Chris Templeman out, before finally being beaten on the half-hour mark.

Dumbarton drew level just before half time with a fierce 20-yard drive from Bryan Prunty and they almost won the game with a well-hit Scott Agnew effort in the second with Forfar goalkeeper Marc McCallum making a fine stop.

In the Third Division the four mid-table teams were in action and by the close of play Elgin had advanced their case for being considered play-off candidates by defeating Peterhead 6-1.The Blue Toon gave them a helping hand with three own goals starting when David Ross turned the ball past his own goalkeeper after 25 minutes. It was two eight minutes into second half when home striker Paul Millar scored, however Rory McAllister and then Callum MacDonald scored at the wrong end before Jamie Redman pulled a goal back.

Brian Cameron and Craig Gunn took the Elgin tally to half a dozen with two late strikes.

Clyde and Berwick Rangers drew 2-2 with the Bully Wee getting off the mark early with John Sweeney setting up the opener on six minutes when he released Gavin Brown and the full back fired high past Jamie Barclay.

It was two seven minutes later when Jack Sloss curled in a low free kick from the right that John Neil swung at and missed with the ball sneaking under Barclay at the far post.

Berwick pulled a goal back on the half hour mark when Stuart Noble sent over a teasing cross and Richard Walker dived to head home with Broadwood defender Iain Gray later sent off.

Clyde goalkeeper David Crawford put up the shutters in the second half, however he was beaten by Damon Gray’s close-range injury time finish.
