FALKIRK chairman Martin Ritchie expects a bumper home crowd after the club were paired with Rangers in the second round of the Ramsdens Cup.
Thousands of Rangers fans descended on Brechin on Sunday as the Ibrox club began a new era with a 2-1 extra-time victory to progress. And Falkirk, the cup holders, will be hoping there is similar interest in Rangers’ second-round tie. The sides met each other in the Scottish Communities League Cup last term, with Steven Pressley’s youngsters securing a shock 3-2 win in front of 6,493 fans.
Ritchie said: “You get that massive travelling support with Rangers. It’s something we saw again at the weekend. It is a game we can all really look forward to in that regard, however we will also be looking to win the match. The Ramsdens Cup, and in it’s previous incarnations, has been a very good tournament to Falkirk, but you certainly would not get a match of the stature of Rangers in recent years.
“The competition will get a national stage, and this is something which will happen throughout the SFL for the next few years. There will be more interest in the sides at lower levels and that can only be a good thing.”
