Peterlin on trial with Hearts as McGlynn plans ahead

HEARTS manager John McGlynn is understood to be running the rule over former Everton midfielder Anton Peterlin in training this week.

The 25-year-old spent a year at Goodison Park without making a top-team appearance before enjoying a season at Plymouth Argyle.

The American, who also holds Danish citizenship, is currently out of contract after leaving Walsall earlier this summer.

McGlynn has also revealed he intends to continue using old club Raith Rovers as a breeding ground for some of Hearts’ best young players.

The 51-year-old is expected to have to turn to a clutch of Tynecastle youngsters next season as he bids to cope with a reduced budget at the cash-strapped capital club.

The former Hearts number two returned to Gorgie a fortnight ago as successor to Paulo Sergio but will not have the same level of resources that helped the Portuguese head coach land last season’s Scottish Cup.

Amongst the fresh faces McGlynn could blood more extensively are Denis Prychynenko, Jamie Walker, Jason Holt, David Smith and Danny Thomson, who all spent time on loan in Kirkcaldy last term.

The likes of winger David Templeton, striker Jamie Mole and defender Jason Thomson, who joined Rovers on a permanent basis this summer, have also been farmed out to the Stark’s Park club in recent campaigns.

Both clubs have forged a strong bond, with Raith also using Hearts’ Riccarton training ground on occasions.

And, with a deep understanding of how the relationship can benefit all parties, McGlynn – who also attracted the likes of Johnny Russell and David Goodwillie to Raith on loan from Dundee United – has vowed to continue using the club he served for nearly six years when seeking a temporary home for Hearts’ youngsters.

He said: “At Raith we had some great loan players come in and go on to great things.

“I know that situation with regards to loan players from Hearts can still take place. The relationship that is there between Raith Rovers and Hearts will still exist and continue.”
