Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon has angrily dismissed reports that Leigh Griffiths landed himself in hot water with a “prison camp” tweet from the club’s
German hotel.

The tongue-in-cheek message was sent on Monday evening ahead of last night’s friendly with Union Berlin, which the Easter Road side lost 2-0.

The Scotland under-21 forward wrote: “Hotel like a prison camp .... #getmehomeasap.”

Griffiths later deleted the post. However, Fenlon has rubbished the idea that the player could be punished, insisting Hibs have more pressing concerns ahead of the new campaign.

The Irishman said: “I have no interest in those reports. It is complete and utter nonsense, and if that is what people want to write then football is in trouble.

“It is not worth commenting on and there is no point in me discussing this matter, or getting into it much further. I want to focus on what we are trying to achieve as a team and as a club and it is not relevant to me.”

Griffiths re-joined Hibs on loan from Wolves at the weekend, signing a deal until January. On the day pre-season started at Wolves he tweeted: “Officially start today #cantbebothered #bed.”

The move to Hibs represents Griffiths’ second spell with his boyhood heroes, having netted 11 goals from 37 games during a productive campaign in Edinburgh last term – including the winner in the Scottish Cup semi-final triumph over Aberdeen.

However, Fenlon is indignant that the player is being criticised upon his return north of the Border amid the turmoil that is afflicting the game in Scotland.

He continued: “It is just annoying that is the kind of thing that people want to write about when there is so much more going on in the game in this country that we need to concentrate on.”

Griffiths has since closed his official account on the social
networking site.
