Murray takes top Raith job

Veteran defender Grant Murray has been confirmed player/manager at Raith Rovers, replacing the departed John McGlynn at the Kirkcaldy outfit.

The 36-year-old former Hearts player, who has been a mainstay in the Fifers’ side since 2009, signed a two-year contract extension in his new role.

Rovers also announced that Stark’s Park stalwart Laurie Ellis, 32, will take up a new post, combining his playing role with a position as first-team coach.

McGlynn’s assistant at Raith, Paul Smith, who has been acting as interim manager will continue as Murray’s No 2.

Raith Rovers chairman Turnbull Hutton said: “We are absolutely delighted Grant Murray has accepted this position and we feel he is the perfect and logical candidate.”
