Garry O’Connor on way to Siberia to play for Tom Tomsk

Former Hibernian striker Garry O’Connor last night completed his 4,500-mile transfer to Siberia – signing a two-year deal with Tom Tomsk.

It is the 29-year-old’s second spell in Russian football, having previously impressed in a 16-month stint with Lokomotiv Moscow which included scoring the winning goal in the national cup final of 2007.

O’Connor’s latest move east will see him playing in the National League, after Tom Tomsk were relegated from the top flight last term. Despite struggling with fitness issues and dealing with off-the-field matters, O’Connor was Hibs’ top scorer last season, scoring 16 goals in his second spell with the Easter Road side. He left his
boyhood club during the close season after his conrtact with them expired.

The 16-times capped striker has also featured in the English Premier League with Birmingham City before moving to Barnsley. Tom Tomsk’s season has already started, with Sergei Perednya’s side slumping to a 1-0 defeat by Rotor Volgograd to kick off their league campaign.
