Football briefs: Ibrahimovic in PSG move | Tonsilitis setback for Hearts striker | Saints injury blow | Reading move for Gunter and Mariappa
Paris St Germain and AC Milan have agreed the transfer of Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic. “An agreement has been reached and he will be having his medical tomorrow (Wednesday),” said general manager Leonardo outside the Parc des Princes. “It’s a great year for PSG. That such a player is coming here is enormous, it can change everything.”
• Hearts striker Gordon Smith is in hospital after being struck down with a severe case of tonsilitis. The 20-year-old will miss this week’s friendly games at Falkirk and Dunfermline and manager John McGlynn is unsure when he will recover. McGlynn said: “It’s unfortunate for Gordon but he’s in hospital and that’s the best place for him.
“I’m not sure when we’ll have him back. It’s first things first and it’s important that he gets better.”
• Nottingham Forest right-back Chris Gunter and Watford centre-back Adrian Mariappa both completed moves to Premier League new boys Reading yesterday. Former Cardiff and Tottenham full-back Gunter joins for an undisclosed fee, but Reading say they have made a “sizeable outlay” for the 22-year-old. Gunter has signed a three-year contract, with the option for a further year.
• St JOHNSTONE have lost new striker Gregory Tade to injury for their Europa League opener in Turkey tomorrow. Tade, a summer signing from Inverness, has been ruled out of the second qualifying round clash against Eskisehirspor with a hamstring injury. Manager Steve Lomas told the club’s official website: “It’s a significant blow but we will just need to get on with it. Greg had been showing up well in training.”
