Fenlon to assess Maybury and Kerr against East Fife

HIBERNIAN manager Pat Fenlon is set to run the rule over trialists Alan
Maybury and Mark Kerr in competitive action this afternoon when his side play their first pre-season friendly of the summer against East Fife.

The out-of-contract duo have been training with the Easter Road club this week as Fenlon bids to overhaul his squad ahead of the new campaign.

The Irishman is likely to hand debuts to new signings Ben Williams, Tim Clancy and Paul Cairney at Bayview, where last season’s on-loan skipper James McPake will delight supporters by returning to the club’s colours as a fully-fledged Hibs player.

And Fenlon, who takes his squad to the Netherlands and Belgium next week for a training camp, is expected to also give Maybury and Kerr the opportunity to impress against the Second Division side.

Kerr was wanted by St Johnstone after the 30-year-old, who also turned out for Polish champions Slask Wroclaw in a recent pre-season friendly, trained with the Perth outfit, but manager Steve Lomas bolstered his midfield yesterday with the capture of Patrick Cregg.

Maybury, the former Hearts, Leicester City and Leeds United defender, is seeking a new club after being freed following two years with St Johnstone.

The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international is relishing the chance to boost his fitness at Hibs’ East Mains training ground.
