Fenlon rejects claims of over-reliance on Griffiths

PAT Fenlon reacted with irritation last night to suggestions Hibs were a one-trick pony after another frustrating 90 minutes in front of goal.

The Hibernian boss was dismissive of the notion that the Edinburgh side would always suffer if top scorer Leigh Griffiths was off the boil.

After defeat in Dingwall, Fenlon’s side have scored just two goals in five games and managed just one win in their past eight outings.

But Fenlon said: “This keeps coming up every time we don’t score a goal. We’ve got Eoin Doyle who has chipped in goals, David Wotherespoon and Paul Cairney have scored a few.

“I don’t think we’re over-reliant on Leigh at all. We have plenty of forward-thinking players on the park. I thought in the first half, up until the goal, we did alright but didn’t create enough chances.

“We had enough of the ball but didn’t really have the cutting edge. You are concerned when you are not scoring. We’re not conceding too many. We lost the game.

“There was very little in it. We just didn’t have that sharpness or cutting edge where we needed to create a few more chances. With the players we had on the pitch, we should be able to do that.”

Derek Adams, Ross County’s manager, was quietly satisfied with a good night’s work.

“It’s another win for us and good to keep the momentum going,” the 37-year-old said. “We’re only six points off Hibs now with two games in hand and four points off Aberdeen. That’s what we talked about before the game. We’re doing well. It has been excellent since the New Year. We have 28 points from 23 games and we’re just keeping on going.

“It was another good goal from Ivan Sproule today. He has scored three goals and one assist, so he’s been a good signing for us. He was desperate to play tonight and show Hibs what they were missing.”

Meanwhile, Hibs have agreed an extension to Jorge Claros’ loan deal, keeping the Honduran midfielder at Easter Road for the remainder of the campaign.
