David Weir linked with Sheffield United deal

FORMER Rangers captain David Weir is in the frame to prolong his playing career yet further with Sheffield United.

The 42-year-old defender has trained with Danny Wilson’s squad since leaving Ibrox in January and taken part in a few bounce games.

Wilson told the United website: “David has been training with us for the last two weeks, through no commitment, but if anything happens to anyone in our squad we need to have our finger on the pulse. There is no rush to do anything. He is out of contract and can sign any time.”

Weir said: “I’ve still not lost the bug and, if I can get someone to give me the opportunity to play, I will definitely do it.”

Just got online again tonight and notice that a couple of the posters are questioning my bona fides (because I said I was a Celtic fan?). I don't particularly care whether you believe me or not, but my first post on The Scotsman was the other day at the transfer deadline. I have no way to prove this to anyone so it is each persons prerogative to believe what they will. As I am not living in Scotland, I am following what is going on in the game from afar and so will only post from time to time if the occasion warrants. I don't know if tomorrows game is still on for Rangers but it be interesting to see how they do. All the pressure is on them and I am sure McCoist has to be nervous in case he gets turfed out of yet another tourney-Whyte may go apoplectic!!!!

Comfortable win for Tic today. Didn't have to get out of second gear.

84 - I didn't say I see him in a not too negative light I was only commenting about Jelavic's departure. As for Whyte I have no idea about his intentions and I don't believe anyone will know until the tax case is concluded. I know nothing of him except he has a dodgy past which seems to have made him a lot of money. His intentions towards Rangers - ?????

DDA: So you're prepared to see CW in a not too negative light. I fear that you your loyalty is misguided and that it will come back and bite you on bum!

82 - Good one - I believe Ally and jelavic. Jelavic has always said he wanted to play in the EPL but he wanted a top 6 team. I believe he was told some time ago he was to be sold in January (hence his indifferent form) and it was long drawn out because he believed Liverpool were interested. I believe he would have been happy to stay until the summer (as he said) and then move but Whyte was intent on getting as much as possible for him now. So to call Whyte a liar is excessive but he did get his way.

DDA: I agree so how is this. A McC has publicly supported Jela's claim that he didn't ask to leave RFC which contradicts CW's version of events. So, is CW a saviour or a liar who just has his own interests at heart?

80 - I don't but the thread is so boring something has to get Saturday night going. It's not like it used to be.

DDA: It's a banned song, not a banned tune. It was just a bit of fun.

I don't want to start or stir up trouble but there was a large police presence in front of the the celtic support towards the end of the game today - i hope they behaved themselves. They also hummed the tune of the Billy Boys - I wonder if the authorities will take any action - after all it is a banned song.

#74 Well, with a lot of time on his hands practice makes perfect i suppose. And being on the sidelines he wouldnt have to worry about post-match random tests ;-) ... #75 Agreed. Both are too big for League 1 imo.
