Glenn Gibbons: Unmerited EBT pay-outs highlight Ibrox profligacy
NOBODY who watched the BBC’s compelling investigation into the Rangers scandal this week could have taken long to reach the conclusion that the Ibrox club’s former owner, David Murray, had managed to take the concept of profligacy to a new level; that is, to an unprecedented depth.

Stuart Bathgate: Back to square one as spineless Hibs throw in towel
ALTHOUGH everyone connected with Hibernian will want to put Saturday out of their minds as soon as possible, that will be easier said than done. Cup finals are billed as one-off occasions in which form goes out the window but this one merely showcased the deficiencies from which Hibs have suffered all season.

Allan Massie: Five-second ruck rule would bring end to boring impasse
THE word is that the IRB will rule that a ball held at the back of a ruck must be played within five seconds, though I haven’t seen official confirmation of this.

SIXTY-NINE days to go. Not that I’m really counting but every time I go into Robert Gordon’s University they have an Olympic countdown clock so I can’t really miss it.

Stuart Bathgate: No justice when equality has gone out the window
IN PRINCIPLE, Neil Lennon is entirely right to state that Rangers should not be treated as a special case by the football authorities. Equality before the law is one of the basic tenets of justice and nearly everyone, including Ally McCoist, would agree with the Celtic manager. At least in the abstract.

Tom English: Bill Miller set to enter a very strange land
ON A day of many statements, the first of them came in early morning when Rangers announced their intention to pay tribute to their 12th man – the long-suffering supporters – by retiring the number 12 jersey forever more. It was a heartfelt gesture of thanks, a measure of appreciation more redolent of schmaltzy American sport than hard-nosed Glasgow football. He’s not making the decisions yet, but you could imagine Bill Miller, the “Tennessee tow-truck tycoon” as he has come to be known in these parts, approving of the sentiment. Rangers will be forever Govan, but the club has moved closer to wrapping itself in the Stars and Stripes under the ownership of a man who, it’s safe to assume, knows a lot more about the history of NASCAR than he does about the legend of Nacho Novo.
