Woman dies after car and van crash

A WOMAN has died and a man is recovering in hospital following a crash, police said.

The collision happened on Saturday morning on the A96 near the Peregrine Falcon Centre in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, which closed the road for six hours.

Grampian Police said they were called to the crash between a Vauxhall Corsa car and a Citroen Relay van at around 10:40am.

The 28-year-old female driver of the car was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but later died of her injuries. The van driver, 59, is being treated at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin. His injuries are not life threatening. Inspector Ewan Innes said: “Tragically as a result of this collision a young female has died and our thoughts are with her family at this time.”
