Tell–tale clues that can trap a criminal

LEADING figures in the world of forensic science have come to Scotland to learn more about advances in the study of bloodstain patterns, which can help victims to “talk beyond the grave”.

The conference of the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts (IABPA) is taking place at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh until tomorrow.

Experts say the interpretation of bloodstain patterns can be crucial in building the case that puts a criminal behind bars.

Such evidence was said to be key in the conviction of serial killer Peter Tobin.

Tom Nelson, director of SPSA Forensic Services, said: “In the most extreme cases of murder, it can allow the victim to talk to us from beyond the grave and tell us their story.
