Teenager ‘regrets’ tweeting hit-and-run man’s picture

Craig Williams was found seriously injured in the bus lane of Ocean Drive.

A TEENAGER has admitted he “regrets” taking a photograph of a hit-and-run victim and posting the image on Twitter.

Ikram Choudhury saw the man lying in a bus lane in Edinburgh during the early hours of Sunday morning, but did not try to help or call 999.

Yesterday, police named the victim as Craig Williams, 35, who was from the Clermiston area of the city.

Mr Williams was found seriously injured in Ocean Drive just after 2am. He was taken to hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Police believe that he had been socialising with friends in the Leith Walk and Pilrig area before taking a bus to Ocean
Terminal.

Officers said he had apparently fallen asleep in the bus lane and was then allegedly struck by a passing motorist.

Several Twitter users urged Mr Choudhury to delete the photograph and alert police.

Yesterday, Mr Choudhury posted another message, saying: RE: Unfortunate Incident Ive just turned 17, not 19, i was the passenger in a moving vehicle not the driver. Reported. With Regrets.

Among those who had viewed his online account were Lothian and Borders Police. His Twitter profile was later deleted.

Police have spoken to the teenager, who is being treated as a witness to the incident.

Meanwhile, a man has been interviewed by police after coming forward in connection with the incident.

A police spokeswoman said: The 25-year-old male driver of a silver Vauxhall Astra subsequently contacted police and was interviewed within a police station.

He co-operated fully with investigators and was later released pending further inquiries. A preliminary report has been submitted to the Procurator
Fiscal.

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information about a hit-and-run incident which left a man dead.

Ian Brown, 48, was struck by a vehicle as he walked home to Dailly, in South Ayrshire, after a night out with friends at Girvan bowling club.He was found dead on the Dailly to Girvan road at about 3:05am on Saturday.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Saturday morning. Sergeant Jackie Dunbar said: He left a local kebab shop at around midnight to begin his walk home.
