Still Game star Greg Hemphill accuses BBC of ‘stifling’ culture
Greg Hemphill took to Twitter to launch his attack on the BBC
STILL Game star Greg Hemphill has hit out at the BBC for failing to support Scottish TV shows.
The 43-year-old said bosses were “stifling” Scottish culture by only showing English content on the network’s world service. Comedian Hemphill claimed that BBC iPlayer does not allow audiences outside of the UK to watch any Scottish content, comparing the broadcaster to former Tory leader Margaret Thatcher.
In a series of blistering tweets on Twitter, the enraged comedian wrote: “My brother lives in Canada along with six million other folk of Scots descent, but on BBC iPlayer he can’t watch any BBC Scotland shows.
“He can’t see Burnistoun, Gary Tank Commander, Limmy’s Show or Still Game – despite there being a potentially massive audience for Scots content.”
