Steven Brown murder police warn against intimidating witnesses
POLICE investigating a 14-year-old murder have sought to reassure residents they have nothing to fear, following reports of witness intimidation.
Steven Brown was found lying dead in a field near Elphinstone, East Lothian, on 21 February, 1999.
The 35-year-old had been beaten and stabbed to death.
Lothian and Borders Police launched a new investigation into the murder last month.
They are now also investigating claims of witness intimidation and yesterday issued a warning to anyone seeking to put pressure on people with information about the killing.
Detective Inspector Gary Boyd, who is leading the investigation, said: “Any attempt to coerce or intimidate witnesses will be swiftly dealt with, and we want to reassure people that police will take immediate action to address their concerns if they feel they have been threatened or pressured in any way.
“We continue to urge anyone who has information regarding Steven’s murder to contact police.”
Crimestoppers has offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction.
