Scotland’s actively slowing

SCOTS are becoming less mobile, with more than one in four not travelling on any given day – down 7 per cent in four years, a survey has revealed.

A total of 73 per cent of adults questioned in the latest annual Scottish Household Survey said they had travelled the previous day, the fourth consecutive fall from 80 per cent in 2007. Nearly two thirds travelled by car or van. Walking was at 22 per cent, bus 9 per cent and rail 2 per cent – all largely unchanged since 2007.

Cycling, however, almost doubled to 1.3 per cent.
