A RETIRED senior officer with Grampian Police is being investigated by detectives from his former force in relation to allegations of indecent assault.

Former Chief Superintendent Ian Paterson, 61, who served as one stage as the force’s acting Assistant Chief Constable, was the longest-serving officer in Grampian Police when he retired in August, 2008, after more than 40 years’ service.

He is currently chief executive of the Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations (ACVO), a leading charity in the city but is said to be on “extended leave” from the charity while the police investigation continues.

A spokeswoman for Grampian Police said: “Grampian Police can confirm they are making inquiries into allegations reported to them by ACVO. Inquiries are at an early stage and Grampian Police can make no further comment on the inquiry or the nature of the allegations.”

A spokesman from ACVO said: “Ian Paterson, chief executive of Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations is on extended leave. During this period, a group of ACVO directors will be considering concerns relating to the management of ACVO.

“Obviously during this time, no statements will be issued.”
