Paul McBride QC leaves £1m in his will

defence lawyer Paul McBride has left £1 million in his will.

Mr McBride, the UK’s youngest ever QC, was found dead in a hotel in Lahore, Pakistan, on 4 March while on a business trip. He died of an undiagnosed heart condition.

Papers from Glasgow Sheriff Court show the defence lawyer and high-profile supporter of Celtic Football Club left all his assets to his interior designer civil partner Gary Murphy.

Of the £1,006,630, Mr McBride’s his luxury West End home is worth £800,000 and furniture and personal items total more than £16,000.

The 47-year-old became a QC at the age of 35 and successfully defended many accused in criminal cases, including Gail Sheridan, who was cleared of perjury charges in 2010.

Mr McBride’s legacy includes a scholarship established in his name at the University of Strathclyde, where he studied, funded by the Celtic charity foundation.
