Pair rescued after night on mountain

TWO hillwalkers, who sparked a search and rescue operation after becoming separated from a group climbing a mountain in the Highlands, were yesterday found safe and well.

There were fears for the welfare of the duo after they were cut off from their group while ascending Ben More, near Crianlarich, on Saturday afternoon in bad weather conditions, with temperatures dipping below freezing and wind reaching 30mph.

Central Scotland Police and an Royal Navy helicopter were joined by Killin Mountain Rescue
Team and the Search and Rescue Dogs Association in the hunt for the two hillwalkers after the alarm was raised at about 2:40pm.

However, they were eventually spotted by the helicopter crew a couple of miles from a summit.

A spokesman for Central Scotland Police said: “Both are safe and well, albeit a bit wet and tired. Neither required medical attention.”
