Man jailed for attacking pensioner loses £17,500
A MAN jailed for a brutal attack on a 76-year-old grandmother has been stripped of assets worth £17,590 under a Proceeds of Crime Act confiscation order.
Derek Clark, 32, was sentenced last December for the attempted murder of Mary Coulter in her home in Overtown, near Wishaw, North Lanarkshire. He received ten years, with another five years for a separate assault on a man.
Previously, Clark, of Ashgill, South Lanarkshire, had been jailed for five years and three months for being concerned in the supplying of cocaine. It was in relation to that offence that confiscation proceedings were taken against him.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Clark’s proceeds from general criminal conduct had been £377,000 but his realisable assets amounted to £17,590.
Mrs Coulter suffered two broken arms, a fractured skull, and deep slash wounds after three men entered her house looking for her son, Ronnie. Clark had wanted revenge on Ronnie Coulter for allegedly terrorising his family.
Ronnie Coulter was one of three men who were acquitted of murdering waiter Surjit Singh Chhokar in Overtown in 1998.
