In pictures: Stars out for The Dark Knight Rises

ACTOR Christian Bale and wife Sibi Blazic were among those in attendance at the world premiere of The Dark Knight Rises in New York.

Other cast members in attendance included Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman and Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway, who plays Catwoman in the third and final film of the series. Director Christopher Nolan’s film, which opens on Friday, is expected to be the most profitable yet in the Batman series.

The film is set eight years after the events of the last film, The Dark Knight, with Bruce Wayne living in exile after his alter-ego Batman is implicated in the death of Gotham City prosecutor Harvey Dent, who later became the villain Two-Face.

Like the the first two films in the franchise, The Dark Knight Rises has received near-unanimous critical acclaim from reviewers.
