Grieving family plan to sue son’s killer

A DRINK driver who killed his friend in a car crash is being sued for £300,000 by the victim’s grieving family.

Ricky Brown, 18, from Newburgh, was killed in March last year, just a fortnight after finding out he was due to become a father.

Jamie Fleming, 21, was nearly double the legal alcohol limit when he lost control of his uninsured Ford Focus while speeding on a motorway slip road near Perth last year.

The apprentice plumber, was jailed for five years for causing death by careless driving after he lost control of the car on a slip road for the M90.

Mr Brown’s mother, Shelley Currie, 38, said the decision was a matter of principle, adding: “We’ve lost our son. We’re the ones who are suffering.”

Ricky’s stepfather, Dave Currie, 52, said: “He’s never written a letter or anything.

“He’s got no remorse.”

In October 2011, a child was born to Ricky’s girlfriend.
