ONE of the most popular events on Scotland’s annual arts calendar, the Prom at Glamis Castle, has been cancelled this year because of the “difficult economic climate”.

The open-air event at the ancestral home of the Earls of Strathmore has attracted up to 8,000 spectators in the past for the concerts featuring the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. But this year’s open air concert, planned for 10 August, will not go ahead. An estate spokeswoman said: “With the outdoor event market under increasing pressure in the current economic climate … the trustees of Strathmore Estates have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Prom for 2013.

“All those who have purchased tickets will be entitled to full refunds and Glamis Castle would like to apologise to those who may be inconvenienced.”
