Fatal road crash cyclist named

A CYCLIST who died following a collision with a car has been named by police.

Mark Sanderson, 53, apparently lost control of his bicycle as he travelled north on the A703 Edinburgh to Peebles road, about 300 metres north of Peebles in the Borders.

He veered into the southbound carriageway, colliding with a Fiat Panda at about 4:20pm on Monday.

Mr Sanderson, from Edinburgh, was given first
aid by people at the scene until emergency services arrived and pronounced him dead.

Police believe he may have become unwell immediately before the crash, and inquiries are under way to establish the circumstances behind his death.

Lothian and Borders Police appealed for information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
